My philosophy as a clinician is to treat the individual as a whole.  What this means is that I truly take a comprehensive approach in my assessment where I consider the impact of all aspects of life (e.g., medical, social, environmental) on mental health and the individual's overall functioning.  Additionally, I also believe in empowering the patient and allowing them to take control of their treatment using a humanistic and person-centered approach. This means working in collaboration to customize treatment in order to meet the needs of the patient and ultimately, improve their well-being.

An "ideal" patient working with me is someone who is motivated to improve their quality of life and end unnecessary suffering. Someone who is willing go through temporary emotional pain in order to help end their long-term or permanent state of suffering. After all, some of the most rewarding things in life require determination, patience and hard work.

    • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

John Wellman

MSW Trainee

Greetings, I’m John, a Master of Social Work (MSW) student currently navigating the complexities of the online program at Louisiana State University (LSU). In a field that often deals with challenging realities, I find myself drawn to the grittier side of social work.

In the academic realm, I am committed to delving into the nuances of the subject matter, acknowledging that the journey involves not only understanding the theoretical aspects but also grappling with the harsh realities that demand our attention.

Beyond the classroom, I engage in hands-on experiences that reflect the sometimes-somber nature of the work. Clinical training at Full Circle Psychotherapy exposes me to the less glamorous, yet crucial, aspects of social work.

My motivation stems from a desire to contribute to the well-being of those facing hardships. Whether it is absorbing the weight of coursework or immersing myself in real-world challenges, my approach is pragmatic and grounded. When working with patients, I am always honored and humbled when trusted with their real-life experiences. I take a person-centered approach to my clinical work with patients; which means that I meet people “where they are at” from the get-go and follow their lead with their treatment goals.

As I navigate the MSW program, my goal is not just to understand the intricacies of social work but to confront and address the darker aspects of our society. I have never felt more ready to face the gritty realities and make a genuine impact where it is needed most.
